Motocross with us at SourisValleyMX!

                                 THANK YOU!!!

My family and I moved to Oxbow late last fall from Estevan. We were very involved with a dirt bike club in Estevan and it wasn't very long after our move that I realized how much I missed having a place to ride. Over the winter I thought about the possibilities of starting our own club here in Oxbow and wondered if it could be possible. Early this spring on our first warm day I noticed kids and adults riding dirt bikes everywhere! They were in ditches, on streets, gravel roads, and racing past my house!! I knew at this point that not only was this project possible but that it was necessary! I made a decision to advertise and plan a meeting. I had over 30 people show up all wanting the same thing that we did! We established the Souris Valley MX club and started to hunt for a location. This proved to be a difficult and frustrating task! Nine failed locations and one month into our search we found exactly what we we needed! Brent and Peggy Dunnigan came up with a place that was absolutely perfect! Brent met wit us and gave us 15 acres of prime motocross terrain as well as a perfect 10 acre flat area for parking and pits. Even after flattening a good portion of Brent's 10 acres of wheat he still shows up with a smile on his face just happy to see the kids have a place to ride! We've heard a few old wise tales of Brent riding a dirt bike in his youth.....some of which include stories of building ramps and jumping cars at the old seed plant much to his fathers dismay! I knew that smile was coming from somewhere! I'm starting to thnk that it won't be long before he gets back on a bike himself.....with Peggy's approval of course....but no car jumping Brent! We are trying to set safe examples for our kids! I speak for everyone in the club by saying that none of what we have accomplished would have been possible with out Brent and Peggy giving us such an ideal location to build our track! Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity! You are the reason that all of us have a place we can enjoy!

Now this track did not build itself! It started with a couple hundred survey stakes and an idea. I am absolutely amazed at the support from our community and surrounding communities. There have been a few bumps along the way but we have worked through that and what has been built is incredible! A 380 post 4 wire perimeter fence with locking gates. This surrounds a 2.0 km track with hills, jumps, curves, and a dugout for a future watering system! The park also has a beginners track for new riders and children and don't forget the mile of new gravel to make access to the track safe and easy. Working with a limited budget and high insurance costs people have been extremely generous! There has been cash donations, material donations, countless hours of donated equipment use, fuel donations, and all kinds of member and volunteer help! With everyone's time, effort and hard work, we have constructed the South Alameda MX Park. We can't say enough thanks for all the donations and the countless hours of member and volunteer work that have made this project a success! We hope to hold a regional race next year with the South Corner Racing Circuit. I also believe that in time it may be possible for us to hold a Saskatchewan Provincial round with the Canadian Motosport Racing Club. The park has great potential to be developed into what is needed to host a provincial round! I have only been in Oxbow  for 10 months now but I have seen many examples already of what small communities are capable of doing when people help out and get things done! I am very proud of what we have accomplished and I speak for everyone from the Souris Valley MX club to say THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us get to where we are today! We are always looking for members, or feel free just to come out and watch. South Alameda MX Park is located 3 miles West and 3 miles South of Oxbow. Memberships are available at Kosior Tractor and Mick's Stop N Shop.

On behalf of the entire Souris Valley MX Club membership, I would like to take this opportunity to say                              Thank You to Erin Brown and his family.                              Without your insight to people needing and wanting this project, and your ambition to get it going, we would not have this wonderful place. Here, we gather with family and friends, do something we enjoy, and we are able to watch our children and friends have fun! Without all of you, this would not be possible for us.

Thank you Erin, Lanette, Shawn, and Shanisse!
