SVMXrs,

Here is what is left to do:

Weed whack grass between whoops and finish line building, bowl corner after whoops, West side of whoops, and a bit more East of bleacher area.

Boost mower and cut grass in pit area, around kids track and on East side of fence along the road.

Pick up loose tires all around the track (my quad and flat deck will be at the track...and if its not phone Sean 421-1713) and make a perimeter around South, East and West side of kids track near the road to keep campers from parking there.

Pull anchor out of kids track with loader (its in the wrong spot) put it on North side of sign up shack.  Dig in 4x4 post and steel kicker post for rubber band start on the kids track.  Going to need a few tires to place over wooden post.

Pound survey stakes on North side of new grass leaving a 6' gap straight North of walk through so people have a place to enter to get to bleacher area.  Put up ktm tape all around new grass (bring staple gun - Brad Mayer has ktm tape).

Pound rods and put fence back up in viewing area (bring sledge hammer).

Sweep out finish line building and stairs.

Pick up hoses off new grass and wrap them up neatly and put them in the finish line building.

Set up new garbage cans in bleacher area and put bags in them. (they are in the sign up shack).

Walk through new grass and pick the big rocks and pile them where it is easy to load them up.

Any questions call me.

SVMXers,
Due to the rain we have had, and will still get, the race has been moved to Sunday, June 27th.
Please let us know if you have signed up for a job and cannot make it on Sunday, so that we can find a replacement.
There is still weed-whacking and grass cutting to be done, so come out with whatever you have to help!

SVMXrs,

Rained out again last night.  Forecast for Saturday is not looking good so we are going to postpone the race until Sunday.  Please pass this message onto everyone!  Still grass to cut, weed whackin to do.  I want to take all the tires we can find and put them on the North side of the new grass to keep vehicles OFF!!!  Please come out and help if you can.  Call me if you have any questions.

SVMXrs,

Tuesday night will be last night to ride but we may have the track disked by then so be careful.  There is a pile of grass to get with weed whackers down there so please don't hesitate to come down and help out.  Around all the jumps need to be done, in-between whoops and finish line building right to the bowl turn, East fence line and anything else that looks like it needs cleaning up.  All the tires between the whoops and bowl corner can be removed and stacked neatly on the North side of the sign up shack.  We will start watering on Wednesday night.  Still haven't had allot of response for volunteers.  Please let me know by Friday night so I can come up with some sort of schedule.

You will see the new grass we have planted is starting to grow.  PLEASE stay off of it.  Everyone has been really good about it but there is the odd track.  Let's give it a chance to grow.  We have ordered a 24 rider starting gate from "Race Gates" in New York State.  (same gate as the new Estevan gate)  It will be shipped on the 15th of June and hopefully will arrive in Minot around the 22nd or 23rd of June.  If anyone is available to go pick it up with a flat deck around that time please let me know and I will give you the details.  Greg Perot from Alameda has donated a riding mower for us to use!  It needs a ride to the track if anyone has time.  We are going to need lots of help to prep for the upcoming race as well as volunteers for race day.  Here is a to do list as well as a list of volunteers needed for race day.

TO DO LIST:
Remove all ripped bale covers and throw them out
Stack up bales without covers so they can be put into track dirt where needed
Clean up and sweep out sign up shack
Put fence back up around bleacher area
Drill couple of small drainage holes on South end of finish line building
Fasten one piece of siding on North side of finish line building
Replace missing piece of siding on South side of finish line building
Cut grass - Wayne King will be bailing some of it but more will need to be done with smaller mower as well as the weed whacker to clean up around the fence, bleacher area and around jumps

Race day volunteers needed for June 26th and July 17th:

10-15 Flaggers
3 Lap counters
3-6 sign up workers for Friday night and Sat morning
2 Entrance gate workers - Friday night 5:30 to 9:00
                                          Saturday 6:30 to 4:00

If anyone can commit to being a volunteer or they know someone that can come out and help please let me know.  Keep in mind that the same amount of people will be needed for the July 17th race so if volunteers can do both that would be a big help.  The track will remain open to ride up to the 22nd of June.  June 23rd to 26th will be track maintenance and prep.  We will be watering each night.  I am not sure if Competitions land spread unit will be available so it is extremely important that we all make an effort to come down and help out to prep during these 3 days.

I have also attached a copy of our corporate sponsor letter.Click here to get it.   Feel free to try and do some fund raising!  There is lots of room for more signs on the fence!!  If anyone has any suggestions or comments let me know.

Patti please forward,

SVMXrs,

There is not much time left to get things organized for our fund raiser.  I am a little green at this but near as I can figure we need roughly 15-20 people to volunteer some time for various shifts.  Here are the positions.

Door workers to sell admission tickets and liquor tickets - 3 people on 2 hour shifts.

Bar workers - 2 to 3 people on 2 hour shifts

People to prepare and set up night lunch.  Looking for people to cook roast and prepare food for night lunch.

Set up and clean up crew.  We will have to do clean up at various times throughout the evening but I am told we do not need to take down tables and chairs or mop.  Just have to pick up all of our garbage and get rid of the boos.

Please give me a call or respond by email if you would like to head up any of these responsibilities or just have your name put on the schedule.  It would be nice to get this organized over the phone and email rather than having a meeting.  Please respond ASAP.  Thanks.

Patti please forward,

SVMX'rs,

Brrrrrrr.  Not exactly riding weather and good thing we had the wind up this past weekend.  A few of the hoses are wrapped up and put away under the finish line building.  If anyone has a chance please collect the remainder of the hoses, wrap them up and put them away.  I found it easy just to put the camlock end on top of the blue garbage trailer, stretch out the hose and start turning...they wrap up neatly like this.  There is some warmer weather a week or two down the road in the forecast.  Kim Janke will come down with hydrovac to suck out the lines.  Co-ordinate with Kim if you get a chance.
The 24th dance is coming up pretty quick so please be on the look-out for volunteers.  We will need people to work the bar, door, set out lunch and a clean up crew.  We HAVE to clean up after the dance that night because the hall is rented out for the following day.  Let's make sure we have people in place so we are not scrambling at the last minute to make it work.  We will probably have a quick meeting around the 19th to 22nd to make sure everything is lined up.  I will let everyone know the location and date.  Give me a call if you have any suggestions.

SVMXr's,
Lots to do this week.  Tuesday will be the last riding day.  Blaine will be there to re-face the rest of the jumps sometime tomorrow.  I would rather people didn't ride after he has them all fixed up.  The finish line building will be going together with a picker if anyone is around to help out tomorrow around noon.  I want to water Wednesday through Friday.  Please come out if you can.  There is lots to do other than watering.  Anyone with gas powered grass whips...please bring them or an old push mower.  Gotta clean up some of the weeds.  Also those who are looking after getting flaggers.....please be sure to tell them to be at the track for about 8:30 am on Saturday and tell them to bring lawn chairs.  Lap counters we need a table and possibly some chairs.  I should have some chairs but doesn't hurt to have extra.  We will need them for the sign up booth anyways.  See you at the track.

Patti please forward,

SVMXrs,

Hey everyone.  As you will see we have planted grass on the North side of the pits and a few other areas.  Big thanks to Wayne and Christy King.  Once again Wayne is there with equipment! Also thanks to Mark Forsythe for the seed drill and good job of seeding Mr. Menzies!  PLEASE STAY OFF WITH BIKES AND VEHICLES!!!  We want to give the grass the best chance it can to grow.  Parents with small kids pick one path to the kids track and stick with it.  Few things on the go at the moment.  There are two signs to pick up in Estevan.  One at Stellar signs (Apex Distribution) and one at CSC Construction.  We will have to pick up posts and plywood at Taylor's to mount signs on.  Also I would really appreciate it if someone could tackle the wellsite shack project at Chandelle.  Kevin has been good enough to give us the shack to use but it still needs a good cleaning!!!  Remember this track is a GROUP effort!  So if you haven't been around to help out much GET AT IT!  Pick up whatever cleaning supplies are needed and save your receipt.  Give it to Patti or myself and we will reimburse you for it.  I'd like to get that shack down there asap.  I am waiting for a price list back from Smith's for our finish line building.  Once I have that and time to start building I will let everyone know.  Track is quite dry, slippery and dusty right now so be careful.  There have been some problems with day riders showing up, not signing wavers or paying fees.  Effective immediately anyone caught will be asked ONCE to go back to town to sign and pay and second time will be asked to leave.  It is EXTREMELY important that these waivers are signed!  Too much hard work has been done here to have things shut down over something as simple as not signing a waiver.  People inviting day riders - YOU are responsible for telling them where to go to sign and pay!!!  The more people we can get to see the track the better but we MUST follow the rules!  Anyways if we can't get some rain I think maybe it would be a good idea to co-ordinate some watering nights.  Maybe one day once a week or once every two weeks...depending on water supply.  Maybe Fridays would be a good day.  Also there is about 15 joints of pipe left that can be bucked together following the track heading South of the East side triple.  Pipe can be set just to right side following the track.

Here's to do list:
Pick up Apex sign at Stellar in Estevan
Pick up CSC Construction sign at shop in Estevan  421-5150  (Cheyenne)
Mount signs on 3/4" plywood and 4x4" posts
Organize cleaning of old wellsite shack
Build day pass key box for track   ORWIN???
Buck remaining 15 er so joints together
Always lots of rocks to pick
Let's pick a watering day

Lets work on our list and ride safe.

SVMXrs,

The watering system is just about complete at the track.  Bit of pipe fitting at the pump and waiting for hoses that are on order.  Please be aware of track changes when riding.  Uphill portion of new section will be completed when we can get a disk and get hill to dry up a bit.  Chandelle still has a shack for us.  It needs a GOOD cleaning.  Tech fence for road signs is sitting at Mayco's yard.  There are four corners and two panels for each sign....have to improvise with all-thread or something for short sides.  Anyone doing this work can give receipts to Patti, Colin or myself so you can be re-reimbursed for any materials purchased.  Please feel free to take on any projects!!!  I don't always call everyone when I am up to project work so please just check the to do list as I send the emails out!  Remember this is a GROUP effort!!  Anyways here is the list for now.

Clean up shack at Chandelle
Rock picking at track  (put rocks in piles off track to picked up with loader later)
Install tech fence around highway signs  (keep cattle from using them as scratching posts!)
Repair outhouse door!
Finish fencing 30' section of dugout on West side (pick up fence and submit receipt if you need to so we can get that project finished!!)

I am headed to AMA Supercross finals with the family this weekend!! See ya later!

SVMXrs,

Almost all the snow has melted so if anyone is riding please ride the whole track to get some lines wore into the soft stuff.  Lots of things to do....see list at bottom.  Our front gate entrance sign has been covered in mud from some idiot spraying it with a dirt bike.  I don't know who would do such a stupid thing but I would hope it was not one of our members.  Everything that is done at our track is because of generosity and volunteers and that is total disrespect to what we have done!!!  Anyways it needs to be cleaned up!  We have put 60 joints of flowline tubing together and got the dugout just about fenced.  Just a 30' piece left to go.  If anyone has a chunk of used old page wire to finish it off please feel free to go put it up.  Big sky has given us a pump shack with Detroit diesel and duplex pump to run our watering system.  Also Chandelle has an old rig shack for us that we can use as a sign up shack!  Pump is being cleaned up right now.  Shack needs a good cleaning on the inside.  Soon as road restrictions come off we should be able to get a tractor and give the track a bit of grooming.
Estevan is allowing 2wd racing quads on their track this year.  One of our sponsors that donated money last year and this year has one of these quads and asked me if we were going to be doing the same.  I need you guys to let me know what you think.  Estevan is doing a trial year of this to see what happens.  There would be no 4x4 quads allowed..just racing 2wd racing style quads.  Please send me an email back asap so we can make a group decision.
I did not call everyone to come help for the bit of work that has been done so far cause it wasn't really planned.  The bit of work I have listed below can be done by anyone.  Don't wait for a call just go ahead and go at it.  If you are not sure what needs to be done just give me a call and I will try to give a little direction.  Here's the list:

Clean up entrance sign!!
Finish dugout fence
Clean up inside of shack at Chandelle
Pick rocks at track
Tires at track need to be put back in place
Fix bathroom door on outhouse and clean out

Once I have picked up fittings we need a welder to install weld on fittings on flowline.  There will be more pipe fitting to do as well as more pipe to buck together.  I will let everyone know when that is going to happen.  Kind of a thin budget seeing as lots of projects to do!  Any ideas let me know.

Looks like our weather is about to turn nasty and put and end to our biking season.  Wayne King has brought his track hoe to the track and we have been installing culverts over the last couple of days.  Oxbow trenching has donated quite a few pieces but we had to purchase 6 lengths and couplers to get the job done.  Ryan Smith has been very helpful and given them to us at cost.  Unfortunately they are still about $500 a piece.  Some of us are donating money to help cover this cost.  If anyone would like to help out with this cost please get a hold of Patti or myself.  Any kind of help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Things are falling into place for our wind up day on Oct 4th.  I am currently looking for a tandem disk to give the track some grooming.  The breaking disk we were using is far too heavy for what we need to do now.  I would like to disk it, then once over with the harrows and then some rock picking.  Also I'm working on finding help to fix up the jump faces.  I am going to announce our fun day at the Estevan race on Saturday.  If anyone can help out in any way at all please let me know.  We need rock pickers, a lighter disk and someone to operate a tractor if they have time.

Subject: FWD: Year End

Hey all Souris Valley MXrs!

The end of the racing season is here but hopefully our riding continues late into the fall!  We are still picking up new members even this late in the riding season which is great!  I would like to have a year end wind up and I was thinking we could make it for October 4th.  I think we should make a day of riding for those who can make it, then a supper in the evening.  I am looking into using the Oxbow Lions Den for our location.  I have priced out catering with Magic Fridays Country Kitchen.  Roast beef dinner with dessert is $14 - adult, 7$ - 6-12, 5 and under free.  Lions will run a bar so drinks are on top of the cost of your meal.  There are a couple of options here.  If people feel the cost is high, our club does have money in the account to bring down the cost of supper.  I need to come up with a number of how many of you are interested in having a supper - plates must be pre-ordered!  If you are interested in going please respond to Patti Mitten at pcmitt@sasktel.net or at 483-2366.  Make sure you let Patti know if the cost of supper is alright.  If you feel it is high we need to know! Due date for response is Oct 1st!!!!  I hope we can get as many members and others interested as possible.  This will give us a chance for supper, a quick summary of the year and future plans, and most importantly a ride day!!...maybe a bit of fun races!  Also if you see Nick Mayer or Robby Boutin they could use a bit of sympathy!  Both are doctoring broken bones from Weyburn's race this past weekend.  Not to worry, bones heal and you can race again!  I've had too many to count!  If any of you have raced in SCRC, please write down your race dates, class, and results and bring them to the wind up.  I've been meaning to post these results in the paper but work has been a bit too busy.  Ride hard and ride safe!

Subject: Parade!

There is a parade on sat morning.

Sean will be driving the quad with the trailer , if anyone wishes to ride behind him in the parade on their bikes, you should be at the high school by 930.

We ask that you be  wearing your helmets and clothing gear please. Once the parade is done we have a Section on main street for Souris Valley MX. It is between the Royal Bank and Spencers Pharmacy.

You can park your bikes there so anyone wanting any info about the club can stop by and ask.

I will also have a table there and some window stickers, I ask that some of the parents please be there as well off and on with some of the kids . Make sure your bikes are clean .

This does not give you permission to ride around town that day, as I am sure the RCMP will be still be out and about that day reminding us .

Thanks. I hope we have a good turn out . Please send me back some emails and let me know if we have enough people interested to go to the parade .

Thanks

Hey everyone!
  • Just to let you know that I am back, so please watch this site for updates so Patti doesn't have to email everyone!
  • We have had a few injuries at the track the past week or so, so please, be sure to use any and all safety equipment you have. There is a recommended list on the Rules page. We all want to have fun, so be careful, and be safe!
  • Erin has made a few more changes to the track. Get out there and see what you think! He has also built some small jumps on the kids' track. They seem to like it, so encourage anyone you know with little ones to check that out, too.
  • Please be sure to tell everyone that they are welcome to visit the track--it's not just for members. We believe that some people think they are not allowed in to check it out, and need to let them know that they are welcome!
  • I will be working on the pictures here over the next couple of days as my time allows--there are alot to go through from our picture night. just keep checking back.
  • I understand there was an article posted in the Carnduff paper about us by the R.C.M.P.--a really nice one! As soon as I have the article and permission, it will be posted here. I will also include Erin's "Thank You" article that was published while I was away.
That's it for now. Go ride, be safe, and have fun!

Subject: Track Revision

Souris Valley MX,

Colin and I made some changes to the furthest West and South side of the track yesterday.  There is already enough corners on the track and we needed an area with a bit more of a straight.  We disked and ran the harrows over a nice natural hill.  I want Blaine Goforth to have a look at it an see what he thinks would make a good jump or maybe 2 jumps.  I rode last night and it makes the track quite a bit quicker and allot more fun to ride!  A couple of the jump faces need a bit of work but we can do that when we build the new jumps in the straight.  If you are going down to the track stop at Mike's Service or Oxbow Tire.  They also have old tires for us to put at the track.  We will put tires to section off the original design so everyone rides the new track.  Also once Wayne isn't so busy we will ask him to come back down with the track hoe to get some more dirt for the finish line jump.  It needs to be twice as long and quite a bit wider.  We also disked in a new kids track in the North East corner.  The whole track has been broken and harrowed again so go out and have some fun!!

Souris Valley MX Members.

Things are starting to get a little dry and pounded out and I am hoping for a bit of rain!  I have been pricing out the cost to drill a well and I don't think it is feasible. From talking to some water well drilling people we may need to go as deep as 200' to 400'.  That's an expensive well!  Anywhere from $10000 to $15000.  Little out of our reach.  I don't think the dugout will be big enough to hold enough water to be worth using.  I think another solution would be to find some used 400bbl tanks and a pump.  Even one tank would get us started.  We could mount these things on high ground for easy access for water trucks.  I currently have 12 joints of 2 3/8" red band tubing and I'm working on another 17 right now.  2 3/8" is a little easier to work with than 2 7/8" but we will take what we can get!  In Estevan they have a 5" centrifical pump ran by a 318 dodge engine - skid package.  It was donated by Hank's Maintenance.  It would be completely amazing to have something like this in place in the first year!  Not sure if we can make that happen but keep your eyes and ears out for this sort of equipment.
Brad Mayer and Wayne King have done a great job hauling dirt and shaping the last couple of jumps!  Finish line might need a bit more dirt but there is over 400 yards in it already!  Big thanks to Wayne for bringing down the equipment and to Brad for running the loader!!  If anyone has a chance bring out a rake and smooth up the top of the finish line jump...little too dangerous to have the loader on top of it.  I have spoke with the Oxbow Herald and they will be out next Wednesday the 9th to take a picture of us at the track.  Bring your bike and gear up!  This will be the picture for the thank you we put in the paper.  If anyone has ideas or thoughts we can discuss them next week at the track.  Have fun riding!!!!

Please don't ride through Cory Irwin's yard on the North side of the gravel road.  Ride on the South side of the road in the ditch when going past Cory's.

Souris Valley MX Members,
I had a chance to go for a ride last night and the jumps are awesome.  Blaine Goforth, Wayne King and Brad Mayer have been working away at it for the last few days and are doing a great job!!  I think this track has potential to host a provincial race!!  We will take it one step at a time though.  They have taken an old water truck tank and put it where are finish line jump is going to be.  We will cut the ends out and use it as a walk through to a viewing area!  Marlin Shain has a bunch of old tires we can pick up at his farm to put around corners and edges of jumps.  Performance welding is building a drag for us out of some diamond harrows that Redhawk donated.  Performance is also building our entrance gate that should be done next week.  Rule sign should be up today at the edge of the track.  Here is a list of things to do:

Brace corner posts, gate posts and cross wire!!!
Pick up tires at Marlin Shain's
Lot's of rock's to pick!
Pick up harrows from Perfomance...should be done tonight
Need culverts!! RM doesn't have any we can use
Buy your membership if you haven't done so!

Get out and ride!!!! It's a blast!

Subject: Open for business!

Souris Valley Mxrs

I had a chance to go for a ride last night and this track has some serious potential to be one of the best in Southern Saskatchewan!!  I am going to advertise it on the radio today that we are open for business - may not be heard until next week.  With any luck I am going to meet with some "dirt" guys later on today to discuss culverts, jump and corner construction.  Please tell everyone that we are open and memberships are available at Mick's or Kosior Tractor.  I noticed the corner posts are starting to lean a bit.  We need to loosen off the wire and put in our corner supports.
Here is a to do list:
Corner supports
Rock picking
Need about 6 garbage cans (old 45g drums)
Identification stickers - design
Build a small waterproof box for log book (mount to fence post)
Collect stakes and mark out kids track
Make some sort of keychains for a couple of day pass keys...I am going to give out that key for a daypass in exchange for some form of ID.  That way we get the key back!

If anyone knows of a small cultivator or heavy set of harrows we could use them to smooth up some of the disked area.  There are some areas that we can't ride on just yet but as it dries up a bit I'm sure we can get things working.  Kevin had his pay loader hauled to the pit yesterday and his worker is running the loader today.  The gravel should be on the road by the end of the day!  If you know anyone with a bike...Tell them to buy a membership!!!  Have fun riding and if you can help out with the "to do" list let me know!!
